DE CAELIS

The ensemble was founded in 1998 and performs a vocal music of Gothic (from XII to VV century). Especially the manuscripts preserved in the Western and Northern part of Europe face the interest of the audience. The artistic creation of the band results from the common studies and experiences, and is the fruit of cooperation between musicilogists, historicians and linguists. The quality of the masterpiece presented by “De Caelis” is the result of three attitudes or points of view, being different but at the same time supplementing each other. Owing to the musicologist the text of the masterpiece is correctly understood, musician shows the way it should be interpreted – that's the person responsible for making decision in the issues of aesthetics, and artistry, while the singer offers the voice sound and the potential of his vocal technique. However, it has to be mentioned, that owing to the common researches and experiences of Laurence Brisset, and her partners, it is the sound of female voices, with its specific 'colour and glamour' that puts “De Caelis” on the exceptional position when analysing the performance of the vocal music of Gothic till now.
LAURENCE BRISSET
Her music education comes from 2 universities: The Versailles Conservatory (graduated with the first prize) and The Conservatoire de Paris. The first object of her studies was clavicembalo (masters: William Christi and Noelle Spieth), the second one: singing. The most important area of her interest was the music of Middle Ages. To perform it profesionally Laurence Brisset explored the issues of music notation, rhythmics and interpretation. Essential factor of development of her artistic awareness was participation in the concerts and recordings of such eminent ensembles as “Organum” (1983-2000), “Discantus” (1989-1992), “Camerata Mediterranea-Boston” (1999). In 1998 Laurence Brisset, together with few friends also fascinated by the Middle Ages Music, founded her own ensemble “De Caelis”. The first three records of ”De Caelis” received the enthusiastic reception of audience as well as critics (ffff Télérama, Cinq diapasons, CHOC du Monde de la Musique). Laurence Brisset, titled Professor of Vocal Performance devotes her time, apart from concerts activity, to the pedagogics.
