JERZY TRELA
One of the most distinctive Polish actors. A graduate of the Actor’s Faculty of State School of Theatre in Kraków, one of the Theatre STU originators. His life is related to Kraków. He appeared there in the Variety Theatre, and since 1969 he has been performing in the Old Theatre. From 1984 to 1990 he was the rector of the State School of Theatre in Kraków. The author of the numerous actors’ creations (among others in Dziady/Forefathers’ Eve/, Wyzwolenie/Liberation/, Hamlet) and the film ones (among other Człowiek z Żelaza/Iron Man/, Kobieta samotna /Lonely Woman/, Quo vadis, Pan Tadeusz, Anioł w Krakowie /Angel in Kraków/) as well as in the television productions (The Television Theatre, series: Kolumbowie/Columbs/, Stawka większa niż życie/More than Life at Stake/, Ekstradycja 2/Extradition 2/). From 1986 till 1989 he was a member of the National Board for Culture. Additionally, he was a deputy of the 9th cadence (1985 - 1989). He was awarded twice the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Prize, which is granted by the editors of the monthly “Theatre” for the season 1990/ 1991, for the creation of Father in the Wedding by Witold Gombrowicz in the Helena Modrzejewska Old Theatre in Kraków, for the season 1998/ 1999 for the role of Samuel in Judges by Stanisław Wyspiański, in the National Theatre in Warsaw. Furthermore, he was granted the Cavalier’s Cross (1981) and the Commander’s Cross (2000) of the Order of Poland’s Resurrection.
