THE WHITE STORK SYNAGOGUE CHOIR IN WROCŁAW

The choir was founded in April 1996 at the suggestion of the conductor Stanisław Rybarczyk from Wrocław as well the students and graduates of the Music Academy in Wrocław; also owing to the favour of the Religious Jewish Commune in Wrocław. It is the only professional synagogue choir in Poland. It regularly performs not only in Poland but also abroad.
It participated in numerous festivals, among others The Jewish Culture Festiwal in Kraków, “Wratislavia Cantans”, Festival of Sacral Music in Warsaw, Overview of Actors Song in Wrocław. It gave concerts during International Book Fair in Frankfurt am Main. Furthermore, it took part in the commemoration of the anniversary of the Crystal Night in Hanower, Braunschweig, Berlin, Hamburg and Görlitz.
It gave concerts with the most famous cantors of the world: Joseph Malovany from New York, Moshe Schulhof from Miami, Roslyn Barak from San Francisco, Shmuelem Barzilaiem from Wien, Moshe Stern from Jerusalem /cantor of the Great Synagogue/, Laszlo Fekete from Budapest, David Ullmann from Jerusalem.
The Choir appears in the services during the Jewish feasts and other celebrations of the Religious Jewish Commune in Wrocław.
It cooperates with the European Centre for Jewish Music in Hannower, directed by Andor Izsak.
2002-2005 it prepared the programmes with the jazz saxophonist Piotr Baron, the Norwegian artist Bente Kahan and actors of the Polish Theatre in Wrocław. In 2005 the Choir appeared, together with the Polish German Young Philharmonic Dolny Śląsk and the cantor Joseph Malovany, in Parieserplatz in Berlin, taking part in ceremonies to present the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. In June 2008 the Estonia tour took place, performing during the most important festivals, among others in Tallin. In 2009 the Choir prepared the new programme - Chants by Mordechaj Gebirtig, for the XI Festival of Jewish Culture SIMCHA. In its repertoire there is a CDs: Shalom - issued by the company Koch as well as the one commemorating the decade of its existence. The ensemble participated also in the recording of CD Alkimja by Justyna Steczkowska.
STANISŁAW MICHAŁ RYBARCZYK
He completed conductorial studies in Poznań and in Wrocław under the direction of Stefan Stuligrosz, Renard Czajkowski, Marek Tracz and Marek Pijarowski. Besides, he studied organ playing and the Polish philology.
From 1984 to 1994 he was the orchestra conductor of the Wrocław Opera and organized many premieres there.
From 1992 to 1994 he was the manager of the Opera’s Choir. 1985 to 1990 he was an artistic director and a conductor of The Chamber Male Choir Cantilena. From 1986 till 1990 he directed the Wrocław Boys Choir ‘Pueri Consonantes’, the ensemble was also founded by him. From 1989 to 1991 he was the manager and artistic director of The Chamber Group of Polish Radio and Television in Wrocław; owing to this cooperation many records, especially of the Polish baroque and renaissance music, were performed. 1993 -97 he was the manager of The Chamber Choir at Wrocław Philharmonic. Furthermore, he was giving lectures at The Music Academy of Wrocław. From 1994 to 2004 he was a conductor of the Symphonic and Chamber Orchestra in Music Gimnasium in Wrocław. Since 1996 he has been conducting The White Stork Synagogue Choir in Wrocław, which was also founded by him. This Artist gave concerts during many festivals not only in Poland but also abroad. He conducted in the greatest part of the European countries and performed many recordings for the phonograph companies, The Polish Radio and Television and foreign broadcasting stations. Since 2000 he has been the artistic director of the Polish German Young Philharmonic Dolny Śląsk.
