PAUL ESSWOOD
The great English counter-tenor and conductor, one of the world’s leading singers today. He studied with at the Royal College of Music in London. He specializes in the early repertoire. Cooperated with numerous Opera Theatres and was the first counter- tenor ever, singing at La Scala in Milan. He took part in the historic Nikolaus Harnoncourt - Ponelle Monteverdi Cycle at Zurich Opera, which has also been recorded and filmed for television worldwide. Together with Harnoncourt and Gustav Loenhardt he recorded the complete Bach’s Cantata. Especially for Paul Esswood few opera parts were created, among others the title role in Echnaton by Philip Glass as well as the Death’s role in the Paradise Lost by Krzysztof Penderecki. Paul Esswood is a Professor of Baroque vocal interpretation at the Royal Academy of Music and gives regular master-classes throughout the World. He was appointed an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music in London and was awarded the Haendel Music Prize in 1992. The Artist regularly appears with the ensemble “Pro Cantione Antiqua” and “the Musicke Companye”, with the harpsichordist Helen Rogers, and the world-renowned lutenist Jürgen Hübscher. Paul Esswood, utilising his considerable experience in the baroque vocal field, has now begun a career as a conductor. In the academic year 2007/ 2008 Paul Esswood became the Professor, visiting the Vocal and Actors Department at the Music Academy in Gdańsk. Since 2007 he has been working with the Polish Orchestra of 18th century.
