Adam Klocek
A conductor and a cellist; Krzysztof Penderecki described him “as one of the most promising conductors of the younger generation”. In 2004 he was the finalist for the position of a conductor-assistant of Maestro Jan Latham-Koenig, becoming the artistic director of Wrocław Philharmonic and “Wratislavia Cantans” Festival. Since 2006 he has been the general and artistic manager of Kalisz Philharmonic; since 2011 he has been the artistic director of the orchestra “Młoda Polska Filharmonia” (“Polish Young Philharmonic”) and since February 2012 he has been the artistic director of Częstochowa Philharmonic. He is the winner of numerous cello competitions both in Poland and abroad. He performed as a soloist in: the premiere of K. Penderecki’s Concerto Grosso conducted by the composer; the concert within Europalia Festival; the inaugural concert of 8th Lutosławski Forum in Warsaw National Philharmonic; tournée in USA and Japan. He was awarded Fryderyki 2002 for the premiere recording of Concerto Grosso with the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by A. Wit. In January 2003 he played the gala inaugural concert of Krzysztof Penderecki Year in Warsaw National Philharmonic. In September 2004 he took part in the premiere of Krzesimir Dębski Koncert wiolonczelowy (Cello concert) together with Sinfonia Varsovia. The piece was written especially for Adam Klocek. He performed with Leszek Możdżer; their album was acclaimed as a best seller of 2005. He cooperated with Universal Music. He plays the cello from 1717 constructed by Antonio Stradivari. Turning point of his life was meeting with Carlos Kleiber, one of the most distinguished conductors of 20th century. Since then he has been active as a conductor and got the best references from Jerzy Maksymiuk, Krzysztof Penderecki, Janos Furst and Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach. He conducted most of the symphonic orchestras in Poland. In 2007-2009 he was active as a guest conductor of the symphonic orchestra in Arizona. He cooperates with Zbigniew Preisner regularly. The CD Preisner’s Voices (Sony Music), where Adam Klocek played, reached the status of platinum album three times. He is the artistic director of “Multimedia Amber Road” the International Festival and the “Wszystkie Strony Świata” (“All quarters of the globe”) International Music Festival in Puławy. He is also a lecturer of the Music Academy in Cracow. Adam Klocek composes chamber, symphonic and film music. Since 2008 he has been a honourable member of the Russian Composers Association.
