Gregorian Schola of Fryderyk Chopin University of Music
The choir was founded in 2010. It is composed of students of church music faculty of the Department of Choral Conducting, Musical Education, Church Music, Rhytmics and Dance of Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. The repertoire of the schola consists of pieces from authenticum fontium gregorianorum, which are interpreted on the basis of the oldest available adiasemantic sources. The schola focuses the attention on semiology, Bewegungstendenz, modality, semio-modality, semio-aesthetics and melodic restitution. The ensemble takes an active role in University’s life, performs in numerous liturgies, concerts and diploma exams. The artistic manager and the conductor of the schola is Michał Sławecki.
Michał Sławecki
Born in Puławy in 1982. In 2001-2006 he studied church music at Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (in organ class with Magdalena Czajka, in conducting class with Sławek A. Wróblewski, in Gregorian chant class with priest Kazimierz Szymonik) and in 2003-2008 he studied composition with Stanisław Moryto and he graduated with distinction. In the academic year 2006-2007 he studied at Conservatorio di Musica A. Casella in L’Aquila (in composition class with Aleksandro Sbordoni, in organ and Gregorian chant class with Giandomenico Piermarini) and at Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra in Rome (in Gregorian chant class with Alberto Turco and Daniel Saulnier). He studied Gregorian chant with Nino Albarosa (Cremona). He took part in master courses with such renowned masters as Johannes B. Göschl (Munich), Kees Pouderoijen (Vienna), Franz Karl Praßl (Graz), Federico Bardazzi (Firenze), Giovanni Conti (Lugano), Heinrich Rumphorst (Berlin). He is a member of Italian and Polish section of Associazione Internazionale Studi di Canto Gregoriano. He is often invited to conduct lectures on Gregorian chant during courses in Poland and abroad. He performs as a soloist, a chamber musician and accompanist. He takes part in premieres of Polish contemporary compositions. He is a laureate of numerous prizes and distinctions in composers contests. Since 2004 he has been an organist and a cantor of Saint Anna Academic Church in Warsaw. He is a second conductor of the Choir of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. Since 2007 he has been the artistic manager and the conductor of Mulierum Schola Gregoriana CLAMAVERUNT IUSTI. He works as a lecturer at Church Music Department of Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. In 2012 he has defended his doctor thesis titled: Romano-Frankish topos. An executive aspect exemplified by selected pieces.
