Wojciech Gierlach
Wojciech Gierlach graduated at the Warsaw Chopin Music Academy with Professor Kazimierz Pustelak, receiving the Magna cum Laude Distinction. He has since been awarded many prizes at international vocal competitions including the Ada Sari (1999 – 1st place); Bilbao (2000 - 2nd place), the main award in the Premio Caruso (Milan 2001); and the Francesco Viñas in Barcelona (2004 – 3rd place). He made his professional debut in 1999 with the Warsaw Chamber Opera in the title role of Händel’s Imeneo. In his repertoire we can find the title roles in Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro and the parts of: Mustafa in L’Italiana in Algeri, Assur in Semiramide, Alidoro in La Cenerentola, Don Brasilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Colline in La Bohème, Raymond in Lucia di Lammermoor, Duca Alfonso in Lucrezia Borgia, Count Rodolphe in Sonnambula, Escamillo in Carmen and Mephisto in La Damnation de Faust.
He performed in the greatest opera halls (Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Nacional Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Opera Ireland in Dublin, Opera Nacional de Bordeaux, National Theatre in Bratislava, Teatro Maestranza de Sevilla, Nico Theater in Cape Town and opera theatres in Minneapolis, Ravenna, Pisa, Santa Cruz, Klagenfurt and St. Gallen).
Wojciech Gierlach took part in many cantata-oratorio pieces: Bach’s Mass in B minor, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No 9, Mendelssohn’s Elias, Verdi’s Requiem, Penderecki’s Seven Gates of Jerusalem. He cooperated with many orchestras in Poland and abroad (Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice/NOSPR, orchestras of National Philharmonic Hall and Philharmonic Hall in Poznań, Sinfonia Varsovia, I Solisti Veneti, Orquesta Nacional de Espana, Orquesta Simfonica de Asturia, Orquesta Simfonica de Navarra, Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra). He is invited to take part in significant music festivals, such as Warsaw Autumn, Prague Spring, Festival d’Aix-en-Provance, Pesaro Rossini Festival, Mozart Festival in La Coruña, Belcanto Festival Wildbad, Lehar Festival Bad Ischl, Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw. Gierlach recorded for Naxos, Bongiovanni, Ibratour, Oehms, LvB and Polish Radio.
